Organisations need managers who can motivate, empower and drive teams of individuals to achieve success. The success of a team is based upon personal relationships creating the unity necessary between all members, the ability to combine skills and knowledge to achieve unified goals and the opportunity for each individual to glean personal achievement from the collective efforts.

Through consideration of the many approaches made available to you over the 3 days you will be able far better placed as a manager of people to recognise what you need to undertake in your role to develop a high performing team. The course includes practical exercises, those that will allow for self- reflection, and many that will allow for direct application of concepts, theories and techniques into personal work situations.  

 

Course Content

  • Reflection of current concerns faced when managing your team.  Setting of personal objectives for the course
  • Recognition of the skills and qualities required to be an effective and forward thinking manager
  • Awareness of Tuckman’s Team development model to identify the evolution of a high performing team.  Identification of management actions required at each evolutionary position
  • Review of John Adair’s Action Centred Leadership, identification of personal leadership preference and areas for development
  • Application of the 3 areas of Work Association to build team unity
  • Consideration of Belbin’s Team Roles and evaluation of the breakdown of your team’s team role profile
  • Understanding the people in your team through application of Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) to enable enhanced communications
  • Recognise how team members maybe motivated by different factors within the workplace through insights into motivational theories
  • Introduction of Emotional Intelligence (EI) to assist in the awareness and management of interactions between yourself and team members
  • Communicating with your team through effective team meetings, briefings and one-to-ones
  • Implementing goal and milestone setting for management and team goals
  • Review of planning, work allocation and delegation techniques   
  • Provision of constructive feedback to empower team and individual performance
  • Coaching using the GROW methodology to empower team members to tackle their own role challenges
  • Moving Yourself Forward – how will you apply your new knowledge and skills

Who is this course for?

This course has been designed for practising or aspiring managers to provide them with a solid man management skillset.  It is appropriate for managers who need to achieve results through people by gaining the co-operation of team members, and for those who are now managing the team they were a member of.
